Replica of the Chauvet cave; 36,000 years of history… In the heart of the Ardeche, in a deep cave, the first artists in the history of mankind painted a masterpiece: horses, lions, rhinoceroses and many other animals captured on film, running, hunting or fighting.Thirty-six thousand years later, scientists, engineers and artists have achieved a feat unique in the world. They have reconstructed this original cave: Grotte Chauvet 2, making visible this extraordinary collection of paintings and engravings, and capturing the emotion that struck the cave’s discoverers twenty years ago.
The Pont du Gard, 40 years of history… Known primarily for its Roman aqueduct, the Pont de Gard site actually has a much longer history. Archaeology takes us back in time to discover our prehistoric past.
The Popes’ Palace in Avignon is the largest Gothic building of the Middle Ages. Both fortress and palace, the papal residence was the seat of Western Christendom throughout the 14th century.
